In 1309: Beast of the East in Action on the Western Maryland Scenic Railway from Kalmbach and Trains Magazine is a look at 2-6-6-2 No. 1309, the last steam locomotive built for domestic use by the famous Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949. After a short career in the coal fields of West Virginia, the engine went into storage and ended up on display at the B&O Railroad Museum. Acquired by the Western Maryland Scenic in 2014, 1309 is to enter service on the 17-mile mountain railroad upon the completion of its restoration.
