The first unit was numbered 8160, but was quickly renumbered. Debuting EMD’s new 265-H prime mover, UP hoped that their high power rating would allow for unit reductions on their trains. Shortly after delivery, UP began rebuilding the units with modified hood doors and walkway equipment, as depicted on this version.
